Top Tips to Dressing a Luxury Bed

When it comes to making your bed so that it resembles one that you would see in a luxury hotel, there are a few key tips that you’ll want to keep in mind. Keep reading for my go to eight step routine that never fails to make a bed look beautiful.

  1. Use a Reversible Duvet Cover. This is a current trend that makes it super easy to vary prints as you wish. When you tire of your current setup, simply turn the cover inside out to enjoy a brand new pattern for a while.

  2. Style with Throw Blankets. Throws are a great styling accessory, but make sure that they aren’t placed too neatly on a bed. Throws should look more informal, casually draped over the corner of the bed to create an inviting, lived-in look.

  3. Use a Coverlet. A coverlet is a lightweight blanket thrown over the top of the duvet or flat sheet. This piece can add a strong color element or serve as a textured layer. Best of all, coverlets are easily changeable, should you crave an update every time a new season rolls around.

  4. Include Plenty of Pillows. Pillows are a bedding essential, of course, but how many should you use for styling purposes? Any odd number is generally ideal when it comes to throw pillows. However, if your bed is a queen or smaller, stick to no more than seven pillows total to ensure the overall look is relaxing, not overwhelming. Mix pillow covers by varying color, pattern, and texture for a non-uniform, current look.

  5. Layer, layer, layer. Texture and layering is essential in any contemporary bedroom. To achieve casual elegance, layer up different colors (three max) and texture to achieve a look that is effortless and doesn’t come across as trying too hard.

  6. Create a Theme/Color Palette. You can do so by selecting a pattern as the focal point to build off of throughout the rest of the room. For example, if you love the idea of botanical bedding, you can incorporate other luscious green accents throughout your sleep space—think houseplants, a rich wall color, and stunning green lampshades.

  7. Keep Details Top of Mind. The art of dressing a bed comes down to the details. The quality of the bedding is paramount, but the details such as a button, piping, or exposed zipper can add that extra layer of sophistication that really makes a room sing.

  8. Prioritize Quality Bedding. Trust me, you don’t want to skimp on your bedding. This is truly a case where you get what you pay for! Go for the best bedding you can afford—it will not only ooze style but also can withstand regular washing. Remember to give pillows and duvets a good shake before dressing the bed to even out the filling and plump them up.
